The EasySeq™ 18S rRNA and Cyp51A kits allow the NGS driven identification of Aspergillus species and the reporting of the Cyp51A mutation status, based on the simple workflow of Reverse Complement PCR.
Aspergillosis is a fungal infection caused by certain Aspergillus species and can be life-threatening especially in patients with lung disease or immunocompromised and immunosuppressed conditions. Most commonly, Aspergillosis is caused by Aspergillus fumigatus, an air-borne ubiquitous pathogen. Mutations in the A. fumigatus Cyp51A gene are known to be the cause of resistance towards certain triazole compounds used to treat Aspergillosis. Accurate Aspergillosis diagnostics is therefore required for choosing the right treatment.
The 18S rRNA kit specifically amplifies the Aspergillus 18S rRNA sequence to distinguish between Aspergillus species in infected patients. Samples from confirmed infections with A. fumigatus can then be analyzed for the mutation status in the Cyp51A gene, allowing practitioners to choose the right triazole compound for treatment.
Aside from diagnosing patient infections, the EasySeq™ 18S rRNA and Cyp51A kits can also be used for investigating contaminations in hospitals as a means for root cause analysis.
