Alpaqua® magnet plates (for 24-, 96- and 384-well microplates) are used in a variety of magnetic bead-based nucleic acid isolation applications such as DNA and RNA extraction from challenging sample matrices and PCR clean-up.  They are the most frequently recommended magnets for clean-up in Next-generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation, and for use in exome capture, i.e. capture of protein coding regions by hybridization of genomic DNA to biotinylated oligonucleotide probes.


Alpaqua® magnet plates accommodate a variety of applications, plate densities, sample volumes and viscosities. Alpaqua® plates have Neodymium-Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnets of various strengths and a proprietary, patented Spring Cushion Technology for maximum bead capture and complete aspiration of supernatants and wash solutions. The entire line is SBS (Society for Biomolecular Screening) compliant and compatible with virtually all automated liquid handlers.

Alpaqua® magnet plates with integrated patented Spring Cushion Technology (US Patent 6,755,384) give way when tips come in contact with a well bottom, thus compensating for physical tolerances between labware and pipettors that can compromise precision aspiration. Tip vacuum and pipette head contamination are minimized, and pipetting consistency is improved. Spring Cushion Technology enables maximum aspiration of samples and reagents, maximize usage of samples and reagents, and protects instruments and consumables.

From NGS library preparation to isolation of cell-free DNA, Alpaqua® magnet plates and accessories facilitate accelerated isolation, streamlined implementation, and maximum performance when simply integrated onto automated liquid handlers and high throughput workstations. Alpaqua®plates are compatible with a variety of industry-leading reagent, accessory and liquid handling providers, e.g. Hamilton, Perkin Elmer, Tecan, Agilent Technologies, Eppendorf, and Beckman Coulter Life Sciences. Alpaqua® magnet plates can also be used manually, facilitating low to medium throughput applications.
