NimaGen IDseek® MPS library prep kits now distributed by Promega Corporation

NimaGen IDseek® enters global distribution through Promega

April 14, 2026 | Nijmegen, The Netherlands & Madison, WI, USA

Forensic casework laboratories worldwide will now have access to NimaGen's IDseek® massively parallel sequencing (MPS) library prep portfolio through Promega Corporation, following a distribution agreement announced today between the two companies.

The future of forensic DNA sequencing starts here.

A milestone for forensic MPS adoption

The IDseek® product line is built on NimaGen's patented Reverse Complement PCR technology, which enables forensic MPS library preparation in a single, closed-tube reaction. The workflow is designed for the sensitivity demands of forensic casework, including degraded and low-quantity samples, and delivers high on-target read yields that maximize sequencing efficiency.

"This marks an important milestone in our growth, extending our sales reach and deepening our technical capabilities to better serve customers around the world," says Pieter van Oers, Senior Manager of Business Development – Forensics at NimaGen. "Our Reverse Complement PCR library preparation technology fundamentally simplifies the MPS workflow, eliminating the complexity that has prevented many laboratories from transitioning to MPS. With our IDseek® MPS library prep portfolio, forensic scientists can now access the power of MPS with a workflow that resembles traditional CE methods, while increasing sample safety, sensitivity and discrimination power of forensic STR testing."

IDseek® product families now available through Promega

Under the agreement, Promega will distribute the full portfolio:

  • OmniSTR™ – autosomal STR profiling
  • mYSTR™ – Y-chromosomal STR profiling
  • CombiSTR™ Plus – autosomal and Y-chromosomal STR profiling
  • OmniHAP™ – microhaplotype analysis
  • OmniSNP™ – identity informative SNP typing
  • Mitochondrial HVR – mitochondrial DNA sequencing
  • Mitochondrial Full Genome – complete mitogenome sequencing

Promega's commitment to forensic laboratories

Promega has supported forensic laboratories for more than 30 years, with products, instrumentation, and technical expertise spanning the full human identification workflow.

"For decades, we have anticipated and responded to the technologies that forensic laboratories need to produce reliable results," says Tim Kupferschmid, Senior Director of Genetic Identity at Promega. "With this agreement, labs that have long benefited from Promega reagents, instrumentation and support can continue relying on us as they expand their workflows with massively parallel sequencing."

For forensic laboratories evaluating the transition to MPS-based workflows, access to IDseek® through an established Promega relationship simplifies the path to adoption, – with the same supplier accountability already relied on for CE-based workflows.

A word of thanks to NicheVision

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to NicheVision and in particular Vic Meles and Brian Young for their collaboration, commitment, and the strong foundation we have built together. While our partnership is evolving, we are glad to continue working together in a new capacity. We look forward to this next chapter and the opportunities it brings for all parties involved.

Forensic scientists deserve tools that genuinely serve their work

A personal note from Pieter van Oers:

"Partnerships like this one don't happen overnight. They are built on years of conversations, trust, and a shared belief that forensic scientists deserve tools that genuinely serve their work. Joining forces with Promega feels like a natural next step one I am proud to announce. If you have questions, want a demo, or simply want to talk through what this means for your lab, please reach out directly."
